I've been working on this project for the last week. As with our end table, we got an old mirror that belonged to Jeremy's grandparents. I checked with the in-laws and they said it was okay if I painted it because it wasn't in very good shape.
I took my inspiration from this Neiman Marcus mirror: $345
This is what I started with....
After I glued on the missing pieces and fixed the major cracks I covered up the mirror to protect it. I left some of the cracks in tact to add to the mirror's aged look. I also cleaned off the dirt because you always want a clean surface when you paint.
Now I could start adding the color on the mirror. The first color...
I actually kind of liked it in just orange.
Then the second color...
After I sanded a bit of the paint off, added a few copper splotches, etc... I polyurethaned the mirror with a clear gloss. I used spary polyeurthane to make sure I got it in all the little crevices. Also, I hate using mineral spirits to clean brushes.... soooooo.... yeah.
I'm excited it to put it up! Still waiting for the poly to fully cure for now.
